Out of the nine digits, fifth and sixth digits put together indicate the Session Number in which a candidate's examination is scheduled. For example, if the Registration Number is ME601005112, then the fifth and sixth digits put together, i.e., 05 indicates that the candidate's examination is scheduled in Session 05. Note on Centre allotment
All the candidates were asked to give 3 choices from a specified list of cities, while filling GATE 2014 online application form. Subsequently, an option for change of city choice was also given to all the candidates (on payment basis for processing the requested change). The centre allotment was then done by an automated process following a randomized algorithm. As per this randomized procedure, centres were allotted to the candidates in the order of their original city choice or the subsequent change of city choice. It is to be noted that in this process more than 90% of candidates could be allotted cities of their 1st choice. The remaining candidates were allotted their 2nd or 3rd choice cities either because sufficient seating capacity was not available in their city of 1st choice or a particular city had to be dropped completely due to non-availability of suitable infrastructure. It is hoped that the candidates appreciate the process that was followed while handling more than 10.00 lakh candidates with the limited infrastructure available in various cities. Considering the logistics involved and the advanced stage of the examination process, GATE 2014 Committee is not in a position to entertain any requests regarding change in the GATE examination city/centre
